What: The Scott Newman Center was founded by Paul Newman to honor his son, who died of a drug overdose in 1978. The foculs of the center is the Rowdy Ridge Gang Camp, which treats mothers and children whose lives are troubled by drug abuse and domestic violence to a safe, fun-filled week in the wilderness. Camping activities are designed to ease recovery, foster self-esteem and encourage the development of coping skills. Mothers share the same goal of staying "straight," becoming better parents and developing healthy lifestyles.

Quote: "My excitement for getting to camp was soon overshelmed by the sense of fulfillment I had during and after camp," says volunteer Michael Keller. "In just a matter of days, each of us there, including me as a volunteer, became a hero to the kids and a friend to their moms."
