Country Fair Week at Rowdy Ridge Adela is every woman. Like many other single parents, she has struggled with worries, sadness, abuse, and economic hardships. She found a program called Hope Street in the city, which helped her to find exits from her desperate situation. Her life changed little by little, and eight years ago they invited her and her four children to the camp Rowdy Ridge for a pit stop. As were others before her, she was skeptical that she could ever enjoy a camp where her children were in the care of others. She feared someone could harm them and didn’t want to be apart from them. Her thoughts changed, just as other parent’s typically do. She grabbed onto the happiness and energy she found at camp and made it her own. She finds camp is the fuel for her body and life. Both she and her children enjoy beautiful days at camp. Her eldest son has grown and changed over the years. He was shy and now he has no problem standing up in front of a crowd. Her second son has changed his behavior and is now helpful to others. Her desire for her daughter is that she will share her same heart for God and the Rowdy Ridge Gang Camp. Her youngest son was just taking his first steps (literally) on the campgrounds, and is now active in the middle boy’s cabin. Of course, Adela’s thinking has been forever changed to a belief that she only has one life that she must live to the fullest. Adela, the grown woman, has the energy of a
counselor, the smile of a young child, and a camp spirit that will live
forever. It is her prayer without ceasing that she could spread the
joy she has for camp to everyone who will hear. As the week at camp
ends, she begins to count the 359 days until she can come back for more
re-fueling! She wishes to express her gratitude to both Hope Street
and Rowdy Ridge Gang Camp for teaming-up to lead her to a path full
of hope and strength
